This is the latest technology for diagnosing and treating snoring or sleep apnea. When sleep apnea or snoring occurs, a person’s airway is partially or fully blocked by loose or excess tissue. Oral appliances can keep the airway open while a person is sleeping, which prevents the occurrence of sleep apnea and snoring. Patients who are unable to use a CPAP machine are good candidates for this technology.
The Eccovision® Acoustic Pharyngometer is a new technology designed to measure a patient’s airway space. As a result, this can help our professionals design the correct dental appliance that will maximize the airways. Pharyngometry is a scientific approach to restful sleeping. The test is minimally invasive and takes only a few minutes to complete. During this test, sounds waves are projected down the pharyngeal airway, and the Pharyngometer software can then assess its size and stability.
Similar to the Pharyngometer, the Eccovision® Acoustic Rhinometer also uses sound waves to measure the nasal passageway. With the topography of the nasal airway made clearer, our team at University Dental Professionals can more easily identify the location and size of any obstruction in the airway.
